Bio | A founding father of the Tennis Hall of Fame, Washburn held a top ten ranking in the United States seven times between 1914 and 1922. But his distinctive prowess was in doubles. With Richard Norris Williams, he clinched the American Davis Cup triumph against Japan at Forest Hills in 1921. This remarkable duo reached two U.S. Championship finals and one at Wimbledon. Later, he chaired many USLTA committees, exerting leadership in all of his roles for the governing body of the game in his country. He was a captain in artillery. |
