Bio He is a former professional tennis player from the Netherlands.

A doubles specialist, he won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles with Manon Bollegraf, the French Open in 1989 and the US Open in 1991. They were runner-up at the Wimbledon mixed doubles tournament in 1993. In 1992 Nijssen and Helena Suková were the US Open mixed doubles finalists.

Nijssen's highest ATP singles ranking was World No. 87 on April 17, 1989. He reached his best ATP doubles ranking on May 11, 1992 when he became No. 10.

Nijssen became a professional tennis player in 1984 and reached the quarter-finals of the Agadir Challenger tournament the following year. In 1986 he was on the side of Johan Vekemans in the final of the ATP tournament of Hilversum. His first double title, he won in 1987 in Tokyo. Until 1990, he played with changing partners, then he played successfully for several years with Cyril Suk. Together, they won seven doubles titles, including three tournaments of the ATP Championship Series. They also reached a final six times, including the Masters tournament in Stockholm and the Paris Masters. From 1991 to 1994, both finished in the top 10 each year and thus qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals. In 1998 he was in Auckland on the side of Jeff Tarango last time in a final. Overall, Nijssen won 16 doubles titles over the course of his career, 14 more times in a double final. His highest record in the tennis world rankings he reached in 1989 with 78th position in singles and 1992 with position ten in the doubles.

His best single result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round of the Australian Open. His best result in the doubles was the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, the French Open and at Wimbledon. He was more successful in mixed.
