Bio | Kwon played on the Junior Tour from 2011 to 2015 and reached there in early 2015 with a combined 46th place in the ranking his best finish. Once he was also in a Grand Slam tournament: 2015 at the Australian Open, as he lost in singles and doubles early each. Until the end of his junior career, he played a few tournaments of the third-rate ITF Future Tour, before he played in mid-2015 for the first time a tournament of the ATP Challenger Tour in Seoul thanks to a wild card. By the end of the year, he got the first three Futures titles, one of which was in the doubles, but he still could not finish the year in the Top 1000. In 2016 he won four more futures and finally stood in Gimcheon for the first time in a Challenger semi-final. From then on he had collected enough World Ranking points to compete permanently with Challengers. In both singles and doubles, he improved in the world rankings strong and stood at the end of the season in singles in the top 300. In 2017 he played at the Challenger in Yokohama without a set loss through the qualification to the final, where he defeated YĆ«ichi Sugita. In May, he came in Seoul again to the final and lost there Thomas Fabbiano. By more passable results, he stood at the end of the year in 16th place. He played in Wimbledon and New York in the qualification of two Grand Slam tournaments and had in early 2017 its premiere in the Davis Cup for the South Korean Davis Cup team. In 2018 he was able to prevail in the Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoffs, a retirement for a wild card at the Australian Open. There he defeated Jan-Lennard Struff smoothly in three sets. In the Davis Cup, where Kwon plays for South Korea since 2017, he has a record of 3-3. |
