Bio | He was a member of the Class of 1898 at Princeton University. He was one of the most tireless, devoted and loyal alumni. He prepared for matriculation at Princeton with four years at Lawrenceville School, and entered in September 1894. At Lawrenceville he had won many championships in tennis and they paved the way for his intercollegiate champioship in sport. After graduation he was with the Pennsylvania Railroad until 1909 as civil engineer in the maintenance of way and engineering departments special apprentice in the Altoona shop, motive power inspector in the Altoona shops, general foreman of the Bedford shops, assistant master mechanic Philadelphia division, Harrisburg Pa., Northern division, Buffalo, and assistant engineer of motive power in the general manager's office of Philadelphia. From 1909 to 1912 he was assistant engineer of motive power of the Philadelphia and Reading Railway. From 1912 to 1915 he was superintendent of motive power and rolling equipment of the same system. Out of these services came his many patents in railroad appliances and also his Engineering and Expert Industrial Construction and Financial Work. His war activities during World War I led to a job with the Railroad Administration, Division of Capital Expenditure Budget Committee of New York. From September 20, 1918 to January 20, 1919 he was in the Bureau of air craft production, Aeronautical Mechanical Engineer in New York. On November 26, 1912, he married Jean K. Burry, daughter of John W. Burry, a Cleveland, Ohio, retired merchant. |
