Bio | Samuel Howard Voshell is known only to Australians as a director of Tennis Enterprises, the organisation which controlled the exhibition matches of Fred Perry and Ellsworth Vines. Frank Hunter, the former American Davis Cup player was Voshell's partner in Tennis Enterprises. It was Voshell who persuaded Perry to become a professional and play the series of 61 exhibition matches against Vines. In 1937 which netted a gross return of nearly £100.000!!! Voshell played as an amateur, was ranked ninth in the United States in 1918 and eighth in 1921. Additionally, his doubles partner was Mervyn Weston. |
