Bio | He began to play tennis as a very small boy with the old Glen Osmond club. He showed soon promise of his brilliancy, and by defeating his elder brother, A. Bowen, became the champion of the club. In 1889, he joined the Zingari Club, he played for them as first single, and was active in gaining for them the premier position. Then again he became the member of the Glens. At the age of 16, he entered the South Australian Lawn Tennis championship, where he reached the semifinal and finally in 1894, he won the entire tournament in singles, in doubles and in mixed doubles. |
