Bio | Of the Four Musketeers from France, Lacoste-nicknamed “The Crocodile”-was arguably the one with the most probing mind, the player who had the fewest weaknesses from the baseline, the competitor who worked the hardest and gave the most of himself. A studious tactician, he broke down his rivals with an unshakable methodology and clearness of purpose, flourishing in the late 1920s. Lauded for his dogged combative spirit, he recognized that he could not afford to leave any stone unturned in pursuit of his loftiest goals. The Four Musketeers were inducted simultaneously into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1976. |
