Bio | He was captain of the tennis team for City College of New York (CCNY). He was the first Black man to play in a USLTA National tournament, the National Indoor Championships held at the 7th Regiment Armory in New York City. He graduated from medical school and became known as the “Black Bill Tilden” because of his power and versatility. Along with George Stewart, they were the first African-American men to play at the U.S. National Championships at Forest Hills. |
