Bio McNamara won five singles titles and nineteen doubles titles in his career. A right-hander, McNamara reached his highest singles ATP-ranking on March 14 1983 when he became world No. 7.
McNamara beat all-time greats Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl to win two of his five singles titles.
Melbourne-born McNamara also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open singles in 1980, the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 1981 and the French Open last eight in 1982. A knee injury effectively ended his playing career at age 28.

But he is perhaps best remembered for his successful doubles partnership with Paul McNamee, the duo twice winning Wimbledon, in 1980 and 1982 as well as the 1979 Australian Open. McNamara's highest rank in doubles was #3.

McNamara had coached Mark Philippoussis. He joined the Patrick Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Paris in 2009, and worked extensively with Dimitrov as well as more recently Matthew Ebden and Wang Qiang. McNamara worked with Wang Qiang until February, helping her reach the world's top 20 during their four-year union.
