Bio | He is the son of East Kalogeropoulos from Greek and Edith Prince from El Salvador. He has two other brothers. He started tennis from a very early age, his father was also a tennis champion and had a Tennis Club in El Salvador. He started tennis at the age of nine and coached by his father. He began playing in international tournaments in Central and North America since 1958, and in 1959 he won his first tournament in Miami. In 1960, he was a teenager of Central America, in 1961, he began touring tournaments in Europe where he decided to come to Greece where he continued to compete as an OAA athlete and was a champion for 20 years. He won the title in men's singles 16 times in 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979 and 1980 and he was finalist in 1967 and 1978. He claimed the men's double title in 1962, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, and 1980, and finished as runner-up in 1966. He won the mixed doubles in 1980 and was finalist in 1962 and 1963. When he was just a teenager when he won his first championship title in 1962. First in the Championship of Thessaloniki in 1964, 1967 and 1971, first victories were in the other domestic tournaments of the season. In 1963, he was the winner of Roland Garros and Wimbledon in boys's singles and as of today, he remains the only one Greek player (male or female) who won any junior Grand Slam title! He reached the last 16 in Wimbledon in 1964. He was the first in the Ostende Championship in 1965, first in Brussels in 1965 and 1966, first in 1965 in Milan and in Zout Belgium. He was the finalist at Italian Open in 1968. He has participated in many tournaments around the world. He was a member of National Greece from 1963 to 1981 and participated in many Davis Cup ties (in 1963, 1964, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1981). Besides, he participated at Balkan Cups (1963,1967 and 1978), and in the 1971 at Mediterranean Games where he won the bronze medal. |
