Bio | He was an American architect, biographical compiler, and art historian. He was one of the foremost authorities on Early American engravings and paintings. He was born in New York City, the son of Mantle and Anna Stone Fielding. After his graduation from Germantown Academy (1883), he studied for a year at the Boston School of Technology (MIT). He became an architect in Philadelphia. Fielding undertook over two-hundred works of architecture, mostly in the Philadelphia area for many different patrons. He participated U.S National Championships tennis tournament in singles and mixed doubles. He reached the finals of the mixed doubles event with his future wife Amy Williams in 1895-1896. In 1898, Fielding married to Amy Reeve Williams; they had two children, Richard M. and Frances. Fielding and his wife lived in Germantown, Philadelphia for many years. He died at his home in Chestnut Hill at age 75. |
