Bio | At 15, Luis Felipe Tavares was considered by the American magazine "World Tennis Magazine" the best tennis player on the planet in his category. A year later, along with Thomas Koch and Edison Mandarino, he joined the Brazilian team that reached the Davis Cup Inter-Zonal zone final in 1966. As early as his career in tennis was Tavares' story in the business world. In 1972, he joined with Thomaz Koch the Koch Tavares, a sports marketing company that emerged in the tennis market and later expanded its operations to other segments. In 1973, for example, Koch Tavares was the company responsible for two tennis events that marked the beginning of “Spectacular Sport,” Globo's weekly sports magazine, which was still broadcast on Saturday afternoons at that time. It was also Koch Tavares one of the main artisans in the development of beach volleyball. The company started working with the sport in the 1980s, and followed the development of the sport until its consolidation in the program of the 1996 Olympic Games. The story is similar to the effort that Koch Tavares has made with sand soccer, sport that has also developed with the help of the company but has not yet made it to the Olympic Games. Tavares had a tennis career shortened by knee and collarbone problems. In addition to chairing Koch Tavares, he was responsible for launching the magazine "Tennis" and the Academy Tennis Center. |
