Bio ‘Laddie’ was a proficient tennis player, who played at Wimbledon on may occasions during the 1930s and partnered his wife (Hardie Cristobel) in the mixed doubles. He won championships in Montana in the 1940s. He became a professional bridge player.
He was a life master, the highest rating in bridge fixed by the American Contract Bridge League. He was frequently chairman of the league's championship tournaments and had been president of Hudson Valley Contract Bridge Association an affiliate of the league. He and his wife, Christabel Hardie, often won as a pair in tournaments. He taught bridge in this area for many years and was known as the father of organized contract bridge in the Hudson River Valley.
He was graduated from Cambridge University, England in 1927. He remained in England until 1939, working for a time at an oil refinery owned by his father.
He had a very speedy serve.
He married in 1930 to Christabel Hardie.
He died of cancer in his home near Saugerties, New York. Surviving, besides his widow, are a son Norman I., and a sister, Mrs Sylvia Fulk.
