Bio He was the first child and oldest son of Charles Lewis Colby and Anna Sims Knowlton.
He graduated from Princeton in 1895.
His younger brother was Everett Colby.

He was the host of the Unity Inn in Kansas City and director of the social and athletic activities of the Unity Country Club, Lee's Summit.
He was connected with the Unity School of Christianity for 8 years.

He was acquainted intimately with the late President Roosevelt, the McCormick family, both John D. Rockefeller, Thomas A. Edison and other celebrities. He is said to have been the first man to instruct John D. Rockefeller Sr. in golf and to have given Mr. Edison his first automobile ride before Mr Ford had completed his first car. He is credited with having been the sixth person in New Jersey to own a car.

He was a great club man and held membership in numerous clubs in New York and Chicago according to Harold McCormick of the International Harvester Co. He had hundreds of friends among prominent persons in the East.

The funeral was held in Kansas City. Interment was held in Woodlawn cemetery in Bronx, New York.
