Bio He is a former professional tennis player from France. He enjoyed most of his tennis success while playing doubles. During his career, he won four doubles titles. He achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 55 in 1984.
In Grand Slams, he reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros in 1979 after beating José Luis Clerc, he lost from Borg, the eventual winner of the men's singles.
Between 1979 and 1983, he was selected nine times for the French Davis Cup team, taking part in the quarter-finals won against Paraguay in 1983. He was also a member of the finalist team in 1982.
He ended his career in 1984 and worked for two years for Wilson and Philip Morris as a promotion manager.
In 1985, he created the Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon (GPTL). He then founded the "Gilles Moretton Organization" (GMO) which specializes in the organization of sporting events. GMO was commissioned by ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne in 1995 to seek sponsors for the club, and also obtained the organization of the Lyon marathon.
Since 2001, he has been president of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, one of France's top basketball clubs.
In 2001, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of " Adecco ASVEL Basket". He led ASVEL for thirteen years and won the title of French champion with the club in 2002 and 2009.
In December 2004, he created "Gones & Sports" which includes Occade Sport (bought in 2007 by Canal+ ) and Adecco-Asvel. He was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sportfive until March 2007.
In April 2010, he was part of the pool of Lyon investors who bought the local television channel Télé Lyon Métropole (TLM), of which he became president in July 2013. In March 2014, he sold his shares in ASVEL to Tony Parker , who succeeded him as president on June 30. In January 2015, Laurent Constantin replaces him at the head of TLM.
Since 2017, he has been involved as a volunteer with the Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost 2 tennis club. On January 20, 2018, he was elected president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Tennis League.
At the beginning of 2020, he announced that he would run for the presidency of the French Tennis Federation. He is elected president on February 13, 2021 for a term of 4 years.
