Bio | He was born at Jamestown and was educated at St. Peters College and the University of Adelaide. He joined the staff of the Adelaide Steamship Company and remained there for 12 years. Soon after transferring to the Gas Company he was made secretary and later became secretary and general manager. In 1944 he was made general manager and Mr. A. J. Dobson appointed secretary. He was a member of the SA Coal Committee and president of the Australian Gas Institute in 1936. Mr. O'Dea was a prominent tennis player and represented South Australia in interstate matches for 10 years between 1905 and 1914. He was a trustee of the SA Lawn Tennis Association at the time of his death. He leaves two daughters—Mrs. John Duncan and Mrs. Robert Clampett, both of Eastwood. His wife,Erica Edith Weidenbach died several years before him. G.M. O'Dea died in Calvary Hospital (Adelaide), he had been ill for about two months. |
