Bio | François Godbout has always been an ambassador of tennis in Quebec. He made a career in the sport for over 20 years and it has been very successful. He represented Canada as a player on the team of the Davis Cup from 1959 to 1964 and in 1969. Although he never won a match in Davis Cup, he had the opportunity to to compete with great players, including Roy Emerson, Tony Roche, Rod Laver and John Newcombe. On the international scene, Godbout broke several players like Dennis Ralston, François Jauffret, Bob Hewitt and Arthur Ashe. In addition, he was part of the ten best players in Canada from 1959 to 1967. Godbout was truly dedicated to tennis, both in Quebec and across Canada. He was president of the Tennis Association of Quebec from 1969 to 1971 and worked as president of Tennis Canada from 1985 to 1987. He is also a founding member of the executive committee of the Quebec Sports Federation. As a lawyer, François Godbout acted as legal adviser to the organizing committee of the 1976 Montreal Olympics and has served on the executive committee of the Canadian Olympic Committee from 1978 to 1985. In the senior players, Godbout was reported in the category 55+. Finally, he was a member of the Board of the Foundation of Friends of tennis in Quebec. In 1988 he entered the Court of Quebec, is appointed to the House of youth. |
