Bio | He is an Italian professional tennis player. Cobolli won the 2020 French Open boys' doubles title with Dominic Stricker. He reached his maiden Challenger final at the 2021 Garden Open II in Rome, Italy where he lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Cobolli won his first ATP match on his debut at the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma as a wildcard defeating World No. 92 Marcos Giron. As a result, he reached a new career-high of World No. 386 on May 31, 2021. In August he reached his second Challenger final in Barletta, Italy where he lost to compatriot Giulio Zeppieri. As a result, he entered the top 300 at No. 281 on August 30, 2021. He reached the top 250 at No. 243 on October 4, 2021. He was named as alternate at the 2021 Next Generation ATP Finals. He reached a new career high in the top 200 on January 10, 2022 at No. 199. In March, he won his maiden Challenger title at the 2022 Zadar Open in Croatia. Cobolli made his Masters main draw debut at the 2022 Rome Masters after receiving a wildcard into the singles and doubles main draws. Cobolli qualified for the main draw at the Rome Masters after receiving a wildcard into the singles qualifying draw. He made his Major debut at the 2023 French Open defeating Mathys Erhard, Lukas Klein and Laurent Lokoliin qualifying. In the First Round he faced World Number 1 Carlos Alcaraz on Court Suzanne Lenglen. He was defeated in straight sets. He won his second Challenger title at the 2023 Lisboa Belém Open defeating Benjamin Hassan in the final. He reached the top 100 after his fifth Challenger final in Olbia, Italy at world No. 95 on October 23, 2023. In November, he qualified for the 2023 Next Generation ATP Finals. As the top qualifying seed at the 2024 Australian Open, he reached the main draw making his debut at this Major and recorded his first win with an upset over 18th seed Nicolás Jarry, his first top-20 and top-50 win, and Pavel Kotov to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. In February, he reached his second ATP quarterfinal at the 2024 Open Sud de France with wins over two Frenchmen, eight seed Gaël Monfils and Constant Lestienne. He won his first round main draw match as a lucky loser at the 2024 Delray Beach Open defeating Taro Daniel. Next he defeated fellow qualifier Zachary Svajda to reach back-to back-quarterfinals and the top 70 in the rankings on February 19, 2024. He lost to second seed Frances Tiafoe. He qualified for the next tournament, the 2024 Los Cabos Open but lost to Yoshihito Nishioka. He also qualified for his first ATP 500 tournament, the 2024 Abierto Mexicano Telcel and defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime, before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16. At the 2024 Mutua Madrid Open he reached the third round of a Masters for the first time defeating two Chileans, Alejandro Tabilo and 22nd seed Nicolás Jarry. As a result he moved into the top 60 in the rankings on May 6, 2024. At his home tournament, the Italian Open, he reached the second round with a win over Maximilian Marterer. At the 2024 Geneva Open he reached his third ATP quarterfinal for the season with wins over Aslan Karatsev and fourth seed Ben Shelton in three sets. He defeated Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets to reach his first ATP semifinal, where he lost to second seed and eventual champion Casper Ruud. Following the 2024 French Open where he lost on the second round, he reached the top 50 on June 10, 2024. At the beginning of the American Summer series on hardcourt at the 2024 Citi DC Open in Washington, he reached his first ATP final defeating David Goffin, eight seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 15th seed Alex Michelsen and second seed Ben Shelton. As a result he reached to the top 35 on August 5, 2024. He reached the second round at the 2024 National Bank Open in Montreal on his debut, with a win over 14th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and moved to a new career-high ranking of world No. 31 on August 12, 2024. He recorded the biggest win of his career this far and over tenth seed Tommy Paul at the 2024 Cincinnati Open, saving three match points on his debut at the tournament. He reached a second Masters third round defeating compatriot Luciano Darderi by retirement. There, he was defeated by Hubert Hurkacz in three sets. |
