Bio Ernest Wittmann was a Polish tennis player of Jewish descent a representative of the Polish medalist III Makabiady 1950.
During sporting career in Poland, he was player of the Jewish Gymnastic Society Sports Samson Tarnow and then from 1933 until 1938 WKS Legia Warszawa. He was also the member of the Polish national team in the Davis Cup in between 1932 and 1937. During this period, he was mostly a reserve, due to the excellent form of Joseph Hebda and Ignacy Tłoczyńskiego.
After all Ernest was one of the leading Polish tennis player. Finally he has been represented his Country twice, the first time in the match between Poland and Italy in 1933, in Warsaw and they been defeated by 3:2. Second time one year later they played against Estonia in Tallinn, and won by 5:0 (occurred hand in hand with Ignacy Tłoczyńskim doubles).

In 1929, he was classified at 5th place and between 1932 and 1937 on the 4th place ranking Polish Tennis Association. In 1933, during the visit of the team WKS Legia Warsaw in Stockholm he played a friendly match with the king of Sweden.( Gustav V. 0Then a few more times in different cities of Europe was playing tennis and social matches bridge with the monarch. In 1934, he translated to Polish the book called-Tennis - René Lacoste.

At the outbreak of World War II was in London. Initially, he was a soldier of the Royal Artillery, and then in the RAF, the head of translators and liaison officer in the Polish pilot training center in Netton Notts.

After the war, remains in the West. In 1946, he won two match at Wimbledon in London. In 1950, at the III Olympic Maccabees in Israel took second place in the singles and second place in doubles. Medals from the Olympics and other trophies from the period of his sporting career Wittman passed to Museum of Sport and Tourism.

Through the intercession of Jerzy Kluger, after the election of Karol Wojtyla as Pope, he and his wife received an audience with Pope John Paul II.

He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Polish Republic for his contribution to the sport of Polish President Lech Walesa's decision.
