| Bio | He was born the son of Samuel and Phebe Van Schoonhoven Thorne. He was graduated from Yale in 1882 arid while at college was a member of the Berzelius Society. He was a cousin of Samuel Brinckerhoff Thorne, Yale football star in the late 90's. Until recently he had been a trustee of the Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was a director of the Granby Consolidated Copper Company and of the Federal Terra Cotta Company and formerly was a trustee of the Bank of America. Edwin Thorne of West Islip, a director of the Central Hanover Bank and Trust Company. He served as a vice president of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and one of the founders of the New York Zoological Society. Mr. Thorne was a member of the University Club, Down Town Association, Automobile Club of America and the Southside Sportsmen's Club of Long Island. He was a brother of the late William V. S. Thorne, vice president of the Union Pacific Railroad. |
