Bio | He played for BBTE (Budapesti Budai Torna Egylet= Gymnastic club of Buda of Budapest), he was considered the best talent among the young players. As it was said about him "the 15 year old Dezso Vad has such a fighting spirit that a lot of star players can learn from him!" He was rank list leader among the young tennis players and he is the first Hungarian who played in a Boys' singles final in a Grand Slam (in 1948 vs Staffan Stockenberg when he lost in 5 sets in Wimbledon). In 1951, he won in singles and in mixed doubles (with Zsuzsa Kormoczy) at the Universiade in Berlin and became a gold medalist. In 1954, he reached the finals in singles and in the doubles (Istvan Gulyas) at the Universiade in Budapest. He won the Hungarian National championship in mixed doubles (with Erzsebet Bard-Erdodi) and they won also the Hungarian International championship. After his retirement, he worked as a journalist for several decades for relevant newspapers (Népsport, National Sports), he was author, co-author. He received awards of Golden Pen, the Merit of Hungarian Olympic Committee (2001) and Media Award (1997). He has also awarded by the Hungarian Telegraphic Office. He was the press secretary of the Hungarian Olympic Committee from 1992 to 2004, the press officer of the Hungarian Olympic team, subsequently editor of some publications and website. |
