Bio | He was a Hungarian tennis player. He appeared in some famous Hungarian club such as BSE, KASE, VTSK, Bp. Bastya, NIM. He was the member of the Hungarian Davis Cup team between 1949-1956. In February of 1952, he was the first Hungarian who beat Jozsef Asboth after 9 years. At the College World championship (called Universiade), he was world champion in singles and in doubles (with Istvan Sikorski-Zsolnay) and he finished as runner-up in mixed doubles (with Sarolta Zimandi) in 1954. He was Hungarian National champion in doubles (with Jozsef Asboth) in 1956. He won the Hungarian International championship in singles in 1956 and ten years later he won in the mixed doubles (with Renata Doba) in 1966. He was active on tour in the 1950s. In 1957, before the tiebreak was introduced, he played the longest ever French Championship match on record, losing a 83-game five set match to Bob Mark in the first round. In 1958, he won in Monte-Carlo in singles, and in the same year, he won in doubles in Rome partnered with Kurt Nielsen beating Luis Ayala and Don Candy in the final. In the same year, he also reached the quarterfinal at German International Championships (currently Hamburg Open). He made the singles round of 16 at the 1958 French Championships, beating Bobby Wilson and Naresh Kumar en route. |
