Bio | She is a British female tennis player. Kartal began playing tennis at aged six and has been playing on the ITF Women's World Tour since 2019. She has won 6 ITF titles - all in 2021 and in 2022 after returning from a period of injury. Kartal won her first title in November 2021, on the clay courts at ITF W15 Antalya, beating Hungarian player Amarissa Toth 7-5, 7-5 in the final, shortly followed by her second title, and her first on hardcourts, at ITF W15 Monastir beating former world no.40 Ayumi Morita 6-1, 6-2. Kartal won the women's title at the UK Pro League, beating Freya Christie 6-0, 6-1 in the final. She followed up her success in late 2021 with a strong start to the 2022 season, winning her third title at ITF W25 Birmingham after a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over compatriot Talia Neilson Gatenby, and a second consecutive title at ITF W25 Glasgow, beating Czech player Barbora Palicova 7-6(5), 7-5. Kartal was called up to the Great Britain Billie Jean King Cup team for the Qualifying Round match against Czech Republic in Prague in April 2022, although she was not selected to play any rubbers. She went on to receive additional wildcards into the main draws at the 2022 Surbiton Trophy and 2022 Ilkley Trophy. In the W100 Surbiton Trophy, defeated Yuriko Miyazaki in the first round before being defeated in the second round by Madison Brengle. She made her WTA debut with a wildcard into the main draw of the 2022 Nottingham Open, where she lost in the first round to Camila Giorgi. In June 2022, it was announced that Kartal had been awarded a main draw wildcard at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, where she made her Grand Slam debut. |
