Bio Nora came from the wealthy Meyer family-living in the affluent suburb of Hampton Wick, near Richmond in West London. The Meyers lived with a whole array of service staff in a very large home.

Nora played tennis in England and at times, had her sisters Cornelia as her doubles partner and Frieda also played tennis.

Her eventual husband Frederick was the son of a German immigrant, Christian Schmitz. He was an importer who lived in New York City. Frederick was born in New York City as was his mother. Frederick was also an importer.

Frederick left the U.S. for Europe with plans to be gone for a year. At some point, he met Nora in England and she travelled to New York in May of 1906 to stay with Frederick's parents. She and Frederick returned to England where they were married on August 1, 1906.

The couple moved to New York where they would remain, and the new bride would belatedly take up tennis again, developing an unorthodox game of under arm serving and chop shots that rivaled the great Francoise Durr.

In 1910, the Schmitz's would journey back to England for a few months and Nora played Wimbledon for the first time, joining Frieda who had now become Mrs Nesham, and they would play the singles together again in 1914. Nora had two children, Ronald (in 1908) and Doris (in 1909). The Schmitz's remained in Manhatten.

From the New York Times, March 17, 1910:
"While Mrs Schmitz came from England originally she is not originally an English champion now. She married Frederick Schmitz four years ago, and learned tennis in this country so that any talk of the cup she won yesterday [for the US National Indoors] going to England is entirely without foundation."
