Bio Kato began playing tennis at the age of 8.
Her favorite surface is hard court. She initially played predominantly tournaments at the ITF Women's Circuit, where she has so far won three singles and eleven doubles.
In 2015, she first appeared in a Grand Slam tournament, but already lost her first round match in the qualification of the US Open against Kateryna Bondarenko clearly with 0: 6 and 2: 6. In qualifying for the Australian Open, she failed in 2016 in the first round, when she was defeated by her compatriot Naomi Osaka with 0: 6 and 3: 6.

In April 2016, she celebrated with Eri Hozumi her first tournament victory on the WTA Tour. The two Japanese women then reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open in 2017. Thereupon Kato reached with 30th place of the double world ranking as a new personal record.

In February 2018, Kato played in New Delhi against Thailand for the first time for the Japanese Fed Cup team. Until end of 2018, after 5 matches played in the Fed Cup, her win-loss record was flawless (5-0).
