Bio | Miss 'Canning' was an alias for a lady who contested the Championships at Wimbledon in 1888. She lost in the first round at Wimbledon to Blanche Hillyard 6-2 6-2. Before Wimbledon she made the final of the London Championships, losing to May Jacks 6-0 6-3. There is currently no real clue to unravel the true identity behind her mask. The name Miss Canning occurs in precious few other draws. A Miss Canning took part in 1887 Middlesex Championships and the 1889 London Championships. |
