Bio | Educated at the University of California, Berkeley. Favourite stroke: forehand drive. Club: Los Angeles. Other recreations: golf. Her father, a banker, built a tennis court on his property and introduced his children to tennis. Coached by Pop Fuller. In 1933 she won the Southern California Championship. Cruickshank made it to the quarterfinals at Forest Hills in 1933, losing a hard fought match to eventual winner Helen Jacobs 11-9 6-4. She was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in 1930 and 1932 and was a member of the 1934 U. S. Wightman Cup team that defeated the United Kingdom team at Wimbledon 5 to 2. Shot-wise her best weapon was a lethal forehand down the line. Teaming with former partner Gladman, she won the Southern California Tennis Association mixed doubles title in 1935 as well as the Pacific Southwest doubles championship. After her tennis days she became a secretary at the Sam Goldwyn movie studios. At the studio she still played events, partnering movie star Errol Flynn in 1937. |
