Bio | Florence lived all her life in the New York metropolitan area. She often represented her home club, the West Side Tennis Club. She did not get married. Finalist doubles event 1915 US Indoor Championships. Finalist mixed doubles at the US National Championships in 1916, 1917 and 1919 with Bill Tilden. Bill Tilden credits her with getting the US National Women's Championships to move in 1920 from June to the September date it still holds. This allowed a whole "circuit" to be built up. (The Art of Lawn Tennis, pages 214-15). She was ranked #8 in the US for 1920 and #10 in 1922. Active years 1914-1931. Titles 1920 New Jersey Chmps; Long Island Chmps 1922 Pensylvania and Easstern State Chmps US Nationals singles record: (competed 1914-17, 1919-20, 1922, and 1926) 6 wins, 6 loses, 2 defaults |
