Bio | She was a professional tennis player and Mexican Pan American medalist. Her most outstanding participation individually was to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open in 1968, in addition to overcoming the first round at the 1968 Australian Open and the United States Open in 1971. In international competitions she represented Mexico in the Fed Cup of 1973 when she beat Sonja Pachta by 6-3 and 6-1. Already in the second round in West Germany, she fell to the British Virginia Wade in two sets, 5-7 and 5-7. Elena participated in two Pan American Games: São Paulo 1963 and Winnipeg 1967. In the first she won the bronze medal, along with her compatriot Yolanda Ramírez. While in Canada, she rose with the title of women's singles. She was director of the General Directorate of Sports and Recreational Activities at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1986 and her second period from 1989 to 1992. She gave a great boost to university sports and was a director who left a historical legacy of university sports, Under her management, several documents that are kept in the Sports and Recreation Documentation Center were edited and written. |
