Bio She was the daughter of William Kemmis-Betty and Alice Melvill. She and her family returned to England around 1911.

She competed at Wimbledon between 1914 and 1933, and echieved the Women's Singles Welsh Covered Champion in 1926 and 1927 and the runner up in 1921 and 1928. Furthermore, she was the Queen'sclub Women's Champion in 1926 and 1927.

She got married twice, first to John Edgar Hill (son of John Cathles Hill, the owner of the London Brick Company) on 28 September 1922 in Saint Marylebone Parish Church, London. But, over a decade later she became widowed on 9 March 1937. Somewhere after the death of her first husband on 9 March 1937 of Bright's disease, she returned to South Africa.

She later married John Norman Banks on 26 Mar 1943 at Rondebosch, Western Cape, South Africa.

He died aged 64 on 13th December 1977 at Hermanus in the Orange Free State, Western Cape. Dorothy died there aged 88, just over six years later on 3rd February 1984.
