Bio | 1887 Middlesex Champion 1888 Wimbledon semifinalist 1889 and 1890 RU at Scottish Championships Miss D Patterson was a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 1888 by virtue of one win-a 6-0 6-3 drubbing of Blanche Williams. In the semifinals she lost 6-4 6-2 to a Miss 'Howes', a woman using an assumed name. Speaking of assumptions, it would be an error to associate Patterson with Lottie Paterson, the well known Scottish player from this era. The spelling is different for one. The initials also differ. Neither appears in the same draw however. There may be cases in some draws where one is mistaken for the other. Patterson won the 1887 Middlesex Championships, which had a draw of 13, quite large for an event at this stage of the sport. |
