Bio | She is the daughter of the old champion and then the tennis trainer Dimitrios Kanellopoulos, is married to Kostas Sakkaris, with whom she has three children, her daughter is also the champion Maria Sakkari. With tennis she came into contact from an early age as her father took her with him at the Athens Tennis Club 's open-air athletes. In 1979, she went to a tennis school in the USA. When returning to Greece, her father took over her workout. She was twice declared "Athlete of the Year" by the Panathinaikos Association of Sports Editors in 1983 and 1985. It was No. 47 in the world ranking of women in April 1987. In Pan tennis championships, she won the singles title in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989, never lost a final. The double women were first in 1982, 1983 and 1986. The double mixed was first in 1981, 1983 and 1988, second was in 1978. She was the champion of Greece in the juniors, and won first and second places in the Greek Cup and the rest of the domestic tournaments. She has won the Acropolis International Cup three times. In 1983, she advertised a well-known brand of deodorant and was punished by the Hellenic Olympic Committee with the exclusion of a lifetime, a decision that was canceled shortly thereafter, she became a professional in the same year. In 1994, she was elected municipal councilor in the Municipality of Athens in the lineup of Dimitris Avramopoulos. WTA has a record 85 wins - 94 defeats in the single and 13 wins - 39 defeats in double women. She has participated in many international tournaments, including Roland Garros and Wimbledon. She was first in her single Rolex tournament in 1979, the same year she was first in the double of the Orange Boole. She has participated in the Monaco tournament, the Volvo Open in Amelia Island in Virginia Slim. In 1985, she played in the third round of Roland Garros where eliminated by Chris Evert the winner of the cup in the same year. With the national women fought at Fed Cup , she was first on the Greek mission in 1976 at the age of 11 but did not fight. She has participated in the Fed Cup of 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991 with 15 victories and 28 defeats. The Balkan Men and Women Championship participated in 1978, 1981, 1982, and 1983. In the Balkan Youth Championship she participated in 1981 and 1982. She participated in pan-European competitions in 1978. The Mediterranean Games took place in 1981. She took part in the 1984 Olympic Games where she was eliminated in the first round by French Tavrier with 6-2, 6-1. |
