Bio | She was an Australian tennis player, born and raised in Melbourne. After graduating from her school she studied at the University of Melbourne, where she was awarded the Tennis Blue in 1941. As a Huntingtower schoolgirl, she represented Victoria in Wilson Cup matches (interstate junior teams contests) in 1938 and 1939; she was runner-up in 1937 for the Victorian junior championship, which she won in the two succeeding years; and was runner-up for the Australian title in 1938 and 1939. She is also a former university champion. She won the junior women's doubles competition with Joyce Wood at the 1938, 1939 and 1940 at Australian Championship, later renamed the Australian Open. She celebrated her greatest success in 1952 when she reached the doubles final of the Australian Championship alongside Mary Bevis Horton. She lost the final to her opponents Nancy Wynn and Thelma Coyne Long. In singles, she reached the semi-finals of the 1949 Australian Championships where she lost to Doris Hart, and in the 1952 quarter-finals she lost to Nancy Wynn. |
