Bio A dynamo coming off the courts of California to dominate the world of tennis with sweeping authority, “Little Mo” Connolly was among the best ball strikers the game has ever seen. Gifted with uncanny court sense, unerring ground strokes, and the strongest possible disposition, she established herself as the first woman ever to achieve a Grand Slam in 1953, before she had even turned 18. But the following year her career was abruptly ended by a horse-riding accident. In 1969, at 34, she passed away from cancer, leaving behind a reputation for unimpeachable integrity and fundamental decency.
