Bio He was an Italian tennis player.
His active years were in the fifties like contemporary of other most successful Italian athletes such as Fausto Gardini, Giuseppe Merlo, Orlando Sirola and Nicola Pietrangeli. He reached the second round in the singles of Roland Garros in 1951, 1953, 1955 and 1957, and reached the final of the Athens tournament in 1953 and Cannes in 1954.

In doubles, he generally teamed up with Giorgio Fachini, and reached the third round of the 1951 Roland Garros teamed with Giuseppe Merlo.

Once the competitive activity ceased, he abandoned the tennis environment, graduating in law and undertaking the activity of manager in an import-export company.

In 1978, he was called by the president of the Italian Tennis Federation Paolo Galgani to fill the role of captain of the Italian Davis Cup team. After a disappointing first season (elimination in the first round 4-1 from Hungary), in the 1979 edition the Azzurri overtook Denmark, Poland, Hungary, Great Britain and in the semi-finals Czechoslovakia at the Foro Italico, reaching the final of the tournament, to be played in mid-December in San Francisco against the United States.

Bitti Bergamo, however, would not be able to participate in this challenge: on October 12, 1979 in fact, at the age of 49, he died near Prato in a road accident, overwhelmed with his car on the A11 motorway by a TIR that had made a U-turn.
