Bio Michael Agelasto was born to Alexander Agelasto and Polyxene Mavrogordato.
He worked in cotton brokerage, which he thoroughly detested. Known as Mickey, he attended Johns Hopkins University and graduated from Columbia
University in 1891, where he played varsity tennis and then semi-professional for several years afterwards. He eventually settled in Norfolk, and worked in the family business as a cotton broker. Agelasto’s extended family lived throughout the world and he travelled frequently to England, France, Greece, Italy, and Egypt. In 1916, Agelasto was appointed Greek Consul to the Port of Norfolk and had diplomatic responsibility for receiving all Greek vessels.

He was educated as both an engineer and medical doctor, but he practiced neither of these professions. The middle of the three brothers, it was he who never married and had the responsibility to take care of his mother who did not die until Mickey was himself 65 years old. Mickey was fluent in several languages, including classical Greek, and he managed to flee to Europe for summer vacations, leaving his mother, to his siblings' management.

Vice-consul for Greece 1888-1891.

He and his brother Alec played the amateur tennis circuit.
While in Europe (April 3- June 1) either he or a namesake 'M Agelastos' represented Greece in singles tennis in the Athens 1906 Olympics (April 22 - 1 June 1), losing in the first round by default.

Michael Agelasto was influential in bringing T. Catesby Jones' modern art collection to Virginia.

On September 20, 1949, his body was found dead by a bell boy in his bath tub in a local hotel. The cause of his death was heart attack or stroke.

He was laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, Virginia.
